Inspiration: Almodóvar Red

As we slowly leave the cold months of winter and early spring in the Pacific Northwest, I look forward to summer and the possibilities the warmer months bring about regarding fashion and style. As a lover of Almodóvar, I am drawing inspiration from what I call Almodóvar Red this year.

Let me introduce you to Pedro Almodóvar, a Spanish filmmaker and producer with a distinctive visual style. Throughout his long and illustrious career, which spans over three decades, Almodóvar’s leading ladies are singled out on the screen by his deliberate use of red, coupled with bold patterns and stylized silhouettes that lend a masculine flair to this color traditionally associated with femininity and passion.

One of my goals is to rebel against the ubiquitous gray and black, hallmark colors of Seattle style. By incorporating bold and bright colors in my wardrobe, I hope to brighten up the gray days of the ten months of autumn Seattleites experience every year.

I aim to incorporate Almodóvar Red into my everyday wardrobe by adding red pieces, accessories, bright red lipstick, bold patterns, and straight lines. I will post my outfits on Instagram and compile looks here. I focus on using pieces I already have in my wardrobe and making new combinations outside my comfort zone.
